Biography
Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Peter F. Lau earned his doctorate in
history from Rutgers University in 2002. He is the author of two books, From the Grassroots to the Supreme Court: Brown v. Board of Education and American Democracy (Durham: Duke University Press, 2004) and Democracy Rising: South Carolina and the Fight for Black Equality since 1865 (Lexington: The University of Kentucky Press, 2006). In addition to teaching
"Freedom Dreams: A History of African American Thought" at Rhode
Island School of Design, he is dean of students at The
Wheeler School in Providence, Rhode Island, where he teaches history and
coaches tennis. He lives with his family just outside of
Providence in Rumford.
