Summer Programs
Students may take summer
courses for credit at RISD and other accredited colleges and universities.
Transfer credit for courses must be approved by the student’s department head (for
studio courses) or the Dean of Liberal Arts (for liberal arts courses) before
summer session begins.
Summer courses at RISD are available
through Continuing Education’s Summer Studies program, which offers a variety
of art, design and liberal arts classes designed to meet the needs of college
students at all levels. Although timeframes vary from two-week intensive
workshops to six-week concentrated courses, all Summer Studies classes enable
students to build competencies in balanced ways.
RISD/CE credit is treated as
transfer credit by RISD’s undergraduate degree programs. Although each course
is recorded in a student’s transcript, the grade is not, nor is the grade
counted in the GPA calculation. Different policies apply regarding the transfer
of RISD/CE credit to RISD degree programs, depending on whether the person is
an undergraduate or a graduate student, and on whether the course is a studio
or a liberal arts course.
