John Lauermann is a Lecturer in the Department of History, Philosophy, and the Social Sciences at Rhode Island School of Design.
Lauermann is a PhD Candidate in the Graduate School of Geography at Clark University. His research interests focus on the links between urban policymaking and international development. His doctoral dissertation assesses the impact of sporting 'mega-events' (Olympics and World Cups) on urban development policy (e.g. sustainability planning, sport-for-development programs). He has managed research projects in Yemen (street vendors and urban planning) and Tanzania (small business development and information technology policy). He is published in journals like Antipode and Geoforum, and has presented papers at conferences of the Association of American Geographers and the Middle East Studies Association.
