Biography

Matt Tierney  was educated at Cornell (AB '99), Santa Cruz (MA '06), and Brown (PhD '12). He has been a participant in the MLA, ACLA, SCMS, CSA, Society for Novel Studies, and Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women. He is also among the contributing editors of A-Line, a new journal of progressive commentary.

Academic Research/Areas of Interest

Matt Tierney teaches on American literature, critical theory, film, and cultural politics at RISD, as well as Brown, University of Massachusetts-Boston, and MIT. Now in final revisions is his book, entitled What Lies Between: Void Aesthetics and Postwar Post-Politics. He has also published in Image & Narrative, World Picture Journal, and Film Criticism, and is completing two other projects as well: a special issue of the journal Postmodern Culture (co-edited with Mathias Nilges) on the topic of "Medium and Mediation"; and a second book, on connections between emotional and aesthetic form in midcentury film and literature of the United States.
