Faculty: Brian Goldberg

Biography

Brian Goldberg is RISD's Interim Dean of Graduate Studies. He has taught in RISD’s Department of Architecture since 2002 offering design studios, courses in architectural and urban history and theory, and supervising thesis projects.

He has served on the Executive Committee of the Part-Time Faculty Association, as interim Director of the Urban Design Institute, and most recently as Program Coordinator for the Make It Better Symposium on art, design and health.

Brian previously taught at Brown University in the Department of Modern Culture and Media where he also conducted research as part of the Scholarly Technology Group and was founding Manager of Brown’s Multimedia Lab. He has co-founded and directed several non- and for-profit organizations, including the experimental media distribution company Drift Distribution and the interaction design company Avalanche Systems, and has served on numerous non-profit governing and advisory boards involved with the arts, education and food infrastructure.

Brian’s creative practice includes significant work in film and video, photography, installation and architecture. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design (2000), a BA in Visual Art and Semiotics from Brown University (1989), and was a student at the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program in 1990-1991.
