Faculty: Brooks Hagan

Biography

Brooks Hagan is a textile designer, artist and researcher. He works with numerous industry leaders including Knoll Textiles, Maharam, S. Harris and Mulberry Silk. A recent project with computer scientists at Cornell University investigates advanced visualization for the design of constructed textiles.  Hagan collaborates with many fine artists and maintains a studio practice centered on hand-production and digital design. He works with Dieu Donne Papermill in Manhattan to explore the fusion of industrial textiles to custom paper substrates. His essays address contemporary tapestry, the architecture of repeating pattern, the role of memory and surface design, and sensation in 3D printing. He received his BA from UNC Chapel Hill and his MFA from RISD. He has taught at RISD since 2006, serving as graduate program director and, currently, acting head of the Textiles Department.
