Faculty: Matt Grigsby


Matt Grigsby graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Industrial Design. He has been practicing entrepreneurship since 2002 when he began freelancing. He started Design Awareness in 2005 which provided research and Industrial Design services to companies looking to better understand their customers and design products that would be efficiently targeted for success in their particular market. In 2007, Matt founded Ecolect, which he runs to this day. Ecolect is a materials library and consultancy focusing solely on environmental solutions, working across many different disciplines including Architecture, Industrial Design, Fashion, Engineering and Construction. Ecolect's consulting work centers around educating clients and providing them with material, technology and design solutions which will improve the environmental performance of their business, products and spaces.

His work was recently featured in the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Museum in New York City. The 2010 show entitled, Why Design Now? is the fourth installation in the National Design Triennial exhibition series launched by Cooper-Hewitt. The show provides a sample of contemporary innovation, looking at what progressive designers, engineers, entrepreneurs and citizens are doing in diverse fields and at different scales around the world. Included are practical solutions already in use as well as experimental ideas designed to inspire further research. Matt has successfully completed projects for companies including Hasbro, Continuum, LG Electronics, Schick, Targus and GM. His work has appeared in publications and media outlets such as the BBC, Metropolis, Dwell, Make, Architectural Digest, Land Rover Magazine, Core 77, TreeHugger.com and Planet Green.
