Marina Adams is a painter who lives and works in both New York City and Parma, Italy. She received her MFA in painting from Columbia University’s School of the Arts and a BFA from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University. Selected solo exhibitions include Marina Adams: Coming Thru Strange at Hionas Gallery, NYC (2013); Marina Adams at Galerie Gris, Hudson, NY (2013); Marina Adams at CUE Art Foundation, NYC (2008) and The Nature of Line at Magazzino d’Arte Moderna, Rome, Italy (1997).
Adams’ paintings and drawings have been included in numerous group shows, such as Wit at the Painting Center, NYC; Color Walks Away: Marina Adams, Howard Hodgkin, Suzanne McClelland at Galerie Andres Thalmann, Zurich, Switzerland; Winter Break at Momenta Art, NYC; Draw the Line at Allegra LaViola Gallery, NYC; Mimosa at Sala Uno Galleria, Rome, Italy and Americani a Roma at Arte Architettura Moderna, Rome, Italy. She has exhibited at many of New York City’s key nonprofit art spaces, including Art in General, Exit Art and Roebling Hall.
Additionally, Adams frequently collaborates with poets. These exchanges have generated books and limited editions that include Taormina with Vincent Katz (Kayrock, 2012), The Tango with Leslie Scalapino (Granary Books, 2001), Vue sur Mer with Christian Prigent (Gervais Jassaud, 2010), In Our Own Backyard (Tolling Elves, 2006 and New Alphabet (Bomb Magazine, Winter 2010) with Norma Cole. In 2007, she co-organized the exhibition Sex in the City at DUMBO Arts Center in Brooklyn with curator Dean Daderko. In addition to teaching at RISD, Adams has taught at BMCC/CUNY, Middlebury College, Rutgers University and Pratt Institute of Art.
