Born in Burlington, VT, Valerie Hegarty earned an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, most recently Alternative Histories at the Brooklyn Museum, Figure, Flowers, Fruit at the Nicelle Beauchene Gallery in New York and Altered States at Marlborough Chelsea in New York. In 2009 she created Autumn on the Hudson Valley with Branches, a High Line Public Art Project in New York.
Hegarty has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships, including a Yaddo Residency in Saratoga Springs, NY (2011), a Pollock Krasner Grant (2010) and an NYFA Fellowship Award in Sculpture (2009). Her work has been critiqued in Art in America, Modern Painters, Time Out New York, The Village Voice and The New Yorker, among other publications.
