International Student Services

Janet Hoyte, the OISS advisor, helps international students to integrate into the RISD community and make the most of their experiences here. She assists with day-to-day issues such as employment, living in the US and adjusting to life in Providence. She also helps students to comply with US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) procedures and with requirements of the government’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).  In addition, OISS coordinates the international student orientation held each fall and helps direct students to appropriate campus resources to meet their needs. 

OISS helps international students with the following:

• SEVIS-related concerns
• I-20 endorsements
• Optional Practical Training (OPT) applications
• change-of-status requests
• proof of enrollment
• procurement of social security numbers and Rhode Island state driver’s licenses
