    First Year Housing

    Homer, Nickerson, South and East Halls comprise the 1st Year Quad. The Quad also contains a Dining Hall, the Fitness Center, Health Services, as well as the Public Safety and Residence Life Offices. In addition to the main quad complex, first-year housing extends across the street to two of our hill houses: Pardon Miller and Carpenter House.

  • Hill Houses

    Hill Houses

    RISD’s six residential houses offer the opportunity to connect with housemates from various disciplines in a small group, community-oriented atmosphere. Between 19 and 34 students live in each of the houses, which were originally built in the 1800s as private homes. Every room seems to embody its own unique features and distinctive charm.

  • 15 West

    15 West

    Upperclass students seeking a more urban experience choose RISD’s newest residential facility, 15 West. Home to over 500 students, the building offers three distinct living arrangements: Alcove Suites, Apartments and Loft-style Studio units. Combined with RISD's Fleet Library and the Portfolio Cafe on the first two floors, the building in its entirety is known as the Roger Mandle Building: The Rhode Island School of Design Living and Learning Center.

  • Benefit Street Apartments

    Benefit Street Apartments

    Two recently renovated buildings “on the hill” provide a more independent style of living to upperclass students. Colonial Apartments house 123 upperclass students in studio, two and three bedroom apartments, while Dwight House offers 21 studio and 2 two-bedroom apartments for upperclass students.

  • Charles Landing

    Charles Landing

    Graduate and upperclass students seeking a more independent style of living choose Charles Landing, a leased property for RISD's exclusive use.  A ten-minute walk from RISD, it is targeted to meet the specific needs of graduate and advanced undergraduate students.  The complex offers housing options in studio, one and two bedroom apartments. Along with  parking, two laundry facilities, a fitness center and pool use during the summer months, it is also close to shopping and downtown.  Although it is a leased property, RISD provides live-in staff and operational oversight at the complex.
