Faculty: Paul A. Sproll

Biography

Professor Paul Sproll, Head of RISD’s Department of Teaching + Learning in Art + Design, is on sabbatical for the 2012-2013 school year. Sproll is actively involved in reform efforts in urban public high schools. He has served on innumerable national, state and city advisory boards, committees, consultancies and panels. He has received grants in support of arts learning initiatives totaling over $1 million from organizations ranging from the US Department of Education and the National Endowment for the Arts to the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. Professor Sproll has recently been traveling to the Middle East as a consultant to the Qatar Museums Authority on the development of a national system of arts learning for Qatar. A British citizen, Sproll taught for almost two decades in high schools in England and Wales before coming to the US. He has taught at RISD since 1990. In 2004, Dr. Sproll was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
