Faculty: Douglas Johnston

Biography

Doug graduated from RISD in 1973 with a BFA in Textiles. He moved to NYC to begin what has become a life in designing textiles.

In 1974 he established the design studio, Brainstorm, which designed original prints primarily for the fashion industry.

In 1988 the business morphed to a consultancy providing original artwork, design direction and production oversight for several printed fabric establishments.

He relocated to New England in 2000 and was Art Director for Quaker Fabrics in Fall River, MA.

Doug now lives and maintains his professional practice in New Bedford, MA designing primarily for the Home textile market. His work is represented globally by the reknown design studio Colwill & Waud located in London UK. Doug's designs have been purchased and manufactured by well-known firms such as Waverly, PKaufman, Caspari and many others.

Doug has taught at RISD since 2008.
