At RISD we recognize that food is not only a necessity, it’s an ideal way to bring students together outside the studio. We also know how demanding RISD’s curriculum can be and just how flexible we need to be as a result — to cater to the particular needs of a community of artists and designers. For us this means offering multiple locations, late-night hours, a wide variety of menu options and comfortable places to get together.

There are a variety of convenient choices for on-campus dining: The Met (in the residential Quad), the Portfolio Café (in 15 West), the Watermark Café (in The RISD Store), The Jolly Roger (257 S. Main), and Carr Haus, the student-run coffee shop in Carr House.

RISD has a long history of offering Saturday and after-school classes for children and teens, as this photo from c. 1910 confirms.
