RISD Research

The Rhode Island School of Design has a tradition of successfully conducting research to explore issues of relevance beyond the boundaries of traditional art and design curricula. The broad range of RISD’s research projects integrate the core educational experience with wider environmental, social, and business contexts. Through these projects, which can range from individual inquiry to external partnered projects, we expose our students to the unique challenges of working with collaborators, help them understand the professional and practical dimensions of their work, and expand their curricular opportunities.

As RISD faculty and students seek to expand their work, it is important to have a shared understanding of how to approach this type of work, what resources are available on campus, and how research can best be developed, supported, and approved. RISD Research provides the necessary support, resources, and dialogue to guide faculty and students through a successful and insightful research process.
