risd connection: Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture;
at RISD since 2006
about his work: A registered architect in Europe,
Berger maintains an innovative practice with a focus on designing space where
traditional boundaries between the inside and the outside (insider/outsider)
are broken down and transformed, drawing nature, art and spirituality back
into spatial design.
road to risd: Berger’s experiences working largely
in Europe and South Asia shaped his environmental and conceptual approaches
to design. After completing his studies in Vienna, he worked as a designer
in New Delhi, India and New York. He also taught at an art and architecture
school in Karachi, Pakistan, where he collaborated and exhibited as an artist.
Berger then became a project architect and designer for UNSTUDIO in Amsterdam,
the Netherlands, where he worked on several international and public projects
over the course of six years before moving to the US to teach at RISD full-time.
