about her work: Robin Quigley's recent collection of jewelry, One a Day, explores events and occurrences common to the human condition. She works directly and simply, with the goal of starting and completing a piece in one day. Typically she begins with the selection of a single item from an edited collection of found objects and materials, seeking to unravel the mystery of her attraction to the chosen subject though "tableau" compositions. Daily studio expeditions yield jewelry that is both literal and abstract in content.
supporting experiences: Quigley enjoys travel whenever time permits. Pursuing her studio practice away from the "familiar and comfortable" has been both productive and thought-provoking, inevitably offering new insights and discoveries that feed into her work. In addition to teaching and serving as department head of RISD's Jewelry + Metalsmithing Department, she has been a visiting professor at the Salzburg Summer Academy (Austria) and the Pont-Aven School of Art (Brittany, France), and an artist in residence at the Paul Gauguin Cultural Center (Hiva Oa, Marquesan Islands) and most recently at the Jam Factory (Adelaide, Australia).
