ANAIS MISSAKIAN
risd connections: Associate Professor and Head, Textiles Department; MFA in Textiles, 1984; teaching at RISD since 1991
about her work: Since 1995 textile designer Anais Missakian has been principal of her own firm, Missakian Designs of Cranston, RI, where her clients include Sunbury Textile Mills, Quaker Fabric Corporation, Westpoint/Stevens and Malden Mills. In addition, she and Laura Lienhard 87 TX/MFA 95 of Laura Lienhard Textiles in Burlington, VT create jacquard and printed upholstery fabrics for the Kreiss Furniture Company in San Diego, CA; Missakian also designs and develops printed and woven interior textiles for Lienhards firm. Before opening her shop in Cranston, she was a partner in Missakian/Contarsy Inc. in New York City from 1990-95, where her clients included Fujiie Textiles, Lenox China, Dansk and Greff Fabrics. Missakian is also director of Industry at the Surface Design Association, an organization dedicated to increasing a general appreciation of textiles as an art form.
roles at risd: Missakian served as graduate coordinator from 2000-04, and she was acting department head in the fall of 1988 and for the 1999-2000 academic year. Her extensive committee service includes work on RISDs Instruction Committee, Academic Standing Committee, Financial Aid Committee, European Honors Committee and numerous faculty and administrative search committees.
