BARBARA SEIDENATH
risd connection: Adjunct Faculty, Jewelry + Metalsmithing
artists statement I have been focused on making jewelry since completing my education as a goldsmith in Germany (BFA 1980 State School for Glass and Jewelry, Neugablonz and MFA 1990 Academy of Fine Arts, Munich). I use traditional techniques to realize my ideas and for many years I have been engaged in experiments with enamel. These were in the beginning explorations of the expressive qualities of color and surface. More recently I have been examining the dimensional possibilities of transparent enamels. Above all, form and design are the most important point of focus in my work. I like to share a view into my world through the pieces I create, inviting the wearer and the viewer to continue that special dialogue that only adornment can offer. Making wearable objects continues to be a passion and maintaining an active professional studio practice is a vital resource for teaching in the classroom.
