Katy Schimert

Katy Schimert (born 1963 in Grand Island, New York) is an artist living and working in New York. She is represented by David Zwirner, New York.

Schimert received her BA from the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts) in 1985 and her MFA from Yale University in 1989. In an effort to deepen her relationship with sculpture, she began making ceramic sculpture in 1992 at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she taught sculpture. 

She has been the focus of solo exhibitions at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (1999) and The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago (1997). She was included in group exhibitions at Pinakothek der Moderne (Munich, Germany), the Aspen Art Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.

Schimert has been a lecturer in sculpture at Yale University and UCSB, an adjunct professor and sculpture department coordinator at New York University and visiting professor of Sculpture at both Harvard University and New York University. In 2011 she taught drawing in Foundation Studies and she now heads up the Ceramics department.
