RISD students may study abroad at 75 participating colleges and universities in 25 countries throughout Europe, Asia and South and Central America. The global experiences are invaluable to art and design students interested in better understanding the world and the role of creative practice in various cultures. Check here for a list of participating institutions.
Students also have the opportunity to
study for a semester at any of the US or Canadian art and design colleges participating
in a mobility program sponsored by the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD). These exchanges allow students
to experience the pedagogical approach and atmosphere at other art schools and to
live in a different geographic region for a semester. RISD students may also
choose to participate in the New York Studio Residency Program offered through AICAD.
The AICAD Mobility Program is
primarily open to full-time students in their junior year who are in good
standing and meet the eligibility requirements of their specific programs. Applications
are made a semester in advance, meaning the application deadline for the fall
semester is April 1 and the deadline for Spring is October 15. Once a student applies,
the host school determines whether to accept or decline each application or
selection of courses.
At RISD this program is
administered by Global Partners & Programs, which offers assistance
in choosing a school that will provide the most benefit based on each
individual’s needs. Current information about the colleges participating in
this program (and the specific courses they offer) are available at each institutions
website; URLs are included in the downloadable list posted to the upper right.
