Many ways to make it happen
RISD's Student Financial Services office (SFS) is committed to assisting students and families in reaching the shared goal of preparing and educating creative individuals seeking to make meaningful contributions to our world. By providing many types of student aid through various programs, RISD helps qualified students seek, obtain and make the best use of all resources available to meet the cost of the extraordinary education offered here.
Approximately 40% of the students who demonstrate artistic and academic excellence and financial need receive RISD scholarships.
RISD scholarships are awarded based on a combination of financial need and academic merit. To be eligible for RISD scholarships incoming students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS Profile Application. Recipients of RISD scholarships must apply for financial aid each year.
FEDERAL + STATE GRANTS
Students seeking need-based financial support should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine their eligibility for state and federal programs such as the Federal Pell Grants and Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants.
Taken in the student's name, Federal loans from the Direct Stafford and Perkins programs are likely to be part of a student's financial aid award package.
Work Study jobs are available for qualified students through both federal and RISD programs. Opportunities are administered by SFS, offering five levels of hourly pay rates.
Outside scholarships provide an excellent way of reducing students' need to work and/or borrow student loans while at RISD.
