OVERVIEW: FACULTY

Steve Ahlquist: A comic book writer and filmmaker, Ahlquist is the creator of Oz Squad, a modern comic book continuation of the L. Frank Baum children's book series. He is also co-creator (along with Chris Reilly) of Strange Eggs. In 2004 Ahlquist and Reilly were nominated for four Harvey awards for their work on PupHedz.

Alexandra Allardt: BA, Wells College; MA and Advanced Certificate in Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works of Art, Cooperstown Graduate Program, State University of NY at Oneonta; AIC Certification. Allardt is the Principal and Managing Director of Artcare Resources of Newport, RI, a firm she founded in 1980. Her extensive client base includes museums and historical sites, tribal nations and agencies, and private clients. She has lectured extensively.

Patrick Arnold: BA, Advertising, Ohio State University; MA, Publications Design, University of Baltimore. A graphic designer and art director, Arnold is principal of Pat Arnold Creative. Formerly design art director for Toth Brand Imaging, his key accounts included Fidelity, IBM, Nautica, Reunion and Unionbay.

Kevin Baker: BS, Horticulture, URI. Baker operates a design/build landscape construction company with a strong emphasis on stonework. He conducts seminars and lectures on stonework across southern New England.

Jennifer Ashley Barsamian: BS, Art Education, RIC. Barsamian has been an elementary visual arts teacher in the East Providence schools since 2005 and previously taught for the Warwick public school system. She has taught a variety of RISD|CE Young Artist courses.

Karen Beck: BS, Landscape Design, URI. She is a registered landscape architect and manages landscape projects for Commonwealth Engineers & Consultants. Her work includes the Cliff Walk in Newport, RI, and Hidden Meadows in Wrentham, MA. As a wetland scientist, Beck has extensive knowledge of related issues. She is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Alison Blackwell: BFA, Illustration, RISD. Blackwell is a freelance illustrator and cartoonist whose client list includes Hasbro Children's Hospital, CVS and Boston's Weekly Dig. In addition, she has created many illustrations, logos and promotional materials for Providence Roller Derby.

Ellen Blomgren: A ceramic artist specializing in surrealistic sculpture, Blomgren owns Mudstone Studios in Warren, offering workshops and communal workspace. An Artist Educator for RISCA, she integrates education in the creation of ceramic murals. Public installations include Rhode Island Hospital, Woodlawn Community Center in Pawtucket and more than a dozen schools throughout Rhode Island. Recent exhibitions include Deblois Gallery in Newport and Imago Gallery in Warren. Examples of her work can be seen at www.ellenblomgren.com.

Robert Cagnetta: BS, Historic Preservation, Roger Williams University. Cagnetta helped found the Institute for Preservation Training, a nonprofit historic preservation/vocational training program. In 2001, he started up Heritage Restoration, Inc., a restoration contracting company, as well as the nonprofit Preservation Training and Education Institute, which provides training and educational opportunities through apprenticeships and internships. He continues to lecture those pursuing careers in historic preservation.

Bruce Campbell: MS, Human-Computing Interface Science, University of Washington-Seattle; MS, Computer Science, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; MS, Information Science, University of Wisconsin-Madison. A virtual community specialist who extends organizations through Web architecture, Campbell spent ten years working with teams of scientists and artists at the cross-disciplinary Human Interface Technology Laboratory. He currently develops innovative computer-mediated communications through Web strategies at The Ocean Project in Providence.

Barbara Capalbo: BA, Western Maryland College. Capalbo studied lighting at NYU and at Lester Polokov's Studio and Forum of Stage Design. A designer, lecturer and consultant, she has designed theatrical lighting for more than 28 years and architectural lighting for more than 12 years. She is a Lighting Design member of United Scenic Artists.

Melissa Cardillo: BS, Elementary Education, URI; Master of Arts, Teaching, RIC. Cardillo is presently teaching visual arts for Central Falls Schools and has previously been an art educator in the Westerly and North Providence Public School systems. She also has experience with printmaking, jewelry design, painting and art history.

Naomi Carr: BS, Rhode Island College. Carr has been teaching at the elementary level in the Warwick public schools for the past ten years. She was honored as the RI Elementary Art Educator of the Year in 2007. A frequent recipient of VSA Arts and RISCA grants, she specializes in public ceramic murals.

Hope Chella: BFA, Illustration, and MAT, RISD; studies at Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland. Chella is a practicing artist and educator who specializes in mixed media. Her work has been exhibited in Rhode Island and the United Kingdom.

Julie Chrissis: Chrissis is the former Design Director for Susan Sargent Designs. As a real estate stager, she has worked with numerous realtors and homeowners staging homes for sale. She has worked on many residential design projects throughout the US.

Stuart Chudy: BA, Video Radio Production Telecommunications, New England Institute of Technology. Chudy, a designer and animator, is currently owner of OpticSugar, LLC., a Providence-based motion graphics shop specializing in broadcast and film.

Michael Conetta: At age 21, Conetta was named Sous Chef at The Holiday Inn in Providence, under the direction of Chef Sal Braga. He has also been mentored by Chef Casey Riley of Newport Harbor Corporation, and is now Executive Chef at the Waterman Grille. Previously, he served as Chef of Catering Operations for Gatehouse Catering.

Marcia Connors: AA, Interior Design, Chamberlayne Junior College; BA, English, URI; MED, Northeastern University. Connors has taught at the Wentworth Institute of Technology, Newbury College, Mount Ida College and RISD. She is a partner in Growing Space Interior Design, working in high-end residential, retail and commercial spaces, and is a member and former president of the New England chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers.

Lisa Constantino: Studied at Le Cordon Bleu, Paris. Constantino, along with her sister, Julie Zito, and their father, opened The Pastry Gourmet in 1990. With retail locations in Cumberland, North Providence and Wickford, as well as a number of wholesale accounts, The Pastry Gourmet offers a wide variety of baked items, including custom cakes, cookies, mousse cakes, cheesecakes, wedding cakes, pastries, breads and bagels.

Jon B. Cooke: Cooke is the editor of Comic Book Artist magazine, recipient of five consecutive Will Eisner Comics Industry Awards for "Best Comic-Related Periodical". He is writer and co-producer of the full-length feature length documentary Will Eisner: Portrait of a Sequential Artist, which premiered at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. He is also the author of several books on comics.

Dean Dalfonzo: BA, Art, University of Maryland; MFA, Painting, New York Academy of Art. Currently teaching at Parsons School of Design in NYC, Dalfonzo has been an artist in residence of Odd Nerdrum in Norway. He is a member of numerous arts organizations, including the New York Society of Portrait Artists and the Art Students League. His exhibition record includes one man shows at the Sheppard Art Gallery in Baltimore, and his art is held in numerous collections, including those of the FBI and The Baltimore Sun.

Jennaca Davies: BS, Building Sciences and BArch, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; MFA, Jewelry and Metalsmithing, RISD; International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg, Austria. An architectural designer and jeweler, Davies recently completed a four-month residency at the Oregon College of Art and Craft. Her work has been exhibited in shows both nationally and internationally, including the Talente exhibition in Munich, Germany, the Gallery of Art in Legnica, Poland and Galerie V&V in Vienna, Austria.

Bryson Dean: BA, Studio Art, Kenyon College; MFA, Fine Arts, The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. Dean has been a graphic designer since the mid-1980s in the fields of corporate communications, multimedia, television and education. Her current work involves teaching, graphic design and personal creative work that springs from the intersections of fine art, design and technology.

Thomas Doran: BA, Studio Art, Pennsylvania State University; MFA candidate, Interdisciplinary Studio, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Doran is currently an instructor at the Boston Architecture Center. He has studied painting in Florence, sculpture at Pennsylvania State University and woodworking at the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding.

Lindsay Elgin: BA, Fine Arts, Amherst College; Studies in Photography, Glasgow School of Art; Certificate in Collegiate Teaching, Sheridan Center at Brown University; MFA, Photography, RISD. Elgin has taught photography in the RISD degree programs, and her work has been exhibited in Amherst, Providence, Tucson, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Recently her work was included in Models, the 11th edition of the architecture journal 306090. She is Advisor for the Digital Photography Certificate Program and is a RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence.

Eric Emerson: BA, RIC. Formerly a production assistant for Eagle Beach Productions of Providence and WHJY and WHJJ radio stations in East Providence, Emerson began his career as a web architect at the Providence professional services firm ExNihilo. He is currently the owner of his own web development company, Emerson Creative, and has been teaching at RISD|CE since 2000.

Jeffrey D. Emidy: BA, History, University of New Hampshire; MS, Historic Preservation, University of Vermont. Emidy is the Project Review Coordinator at the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission. His work experience as an architectural historian has centered on the identification of historic resources and the written and photographic documentation of their characteristics and history.

Anne Emlein: MFA, Textiles, RISD; BFA, Textiles, California College of Arts and Crafts. Emlein teaches machine knitting, textiles for apparel, and fine arts textile courses in the Textile Department at RISD. She has exhibited her knitwear, apparel and fine arts work throughout the country.

Christine Enos: BFA, Furniture Design, SUNY/Purchase; MFA, Furniture Design, San Diego State University. Enos has taught furniture design at RISD, Herron School of Art, Oregon College of Art and Craft, and San Diego State University. Her work has been exhibited widely, including most recently at the Fuller Craft Museum.

Chris Eramo: Former General Manager of the Susan Sargent Designs flagship store on Newbury Street in Boston, Eramo worked with clients on design projects and was the imaginative force behind the visual design of this flagship location. He has consulted with various retailers on the interior setup of retail stores throughout the country. Eramo's staging success can also be attributed to 20 years of experience buying, staging and selling homes in the Boston market.

Staats Fasoldt: BS, Art, Empire State College; MFA, Painting, SUNY New Paltz. Fasoldt currently teaches painting at the Woodstock School of Art, where he is also Vice President of the Board of Directors. He is founder and former president of the Hudson River Watercolor Society. His work has been exhibited at the October Gallerie IM in Germany and the Coffey Gallery in Kingston, NY.

Abby Fay: BS, Art Education, Rhode Island College; additional coursework at Fashion Institute of Technology and Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy. A fine artist with a concentration in drawing and painting, Fay has exhibited her work in Bristol, Warren and Providence. She is a member of the National and Rhode Island Art Education Associations and of the Bristol Art Club.

Sean Fisher: BA, Art History, Syracuse University; completed courses in traditional furniture making at the North Bennett Street School; trained in furniture conservation at the Smithsonian Institution. Fisher is a principal owner of Robert Mussey Associates, Boston, a firm that has worked with both museums and private clients.

David Fleurant: Advanced Photography, Rhode Island School of Photography. Fleurant has more than 30 years of experience, including work in news, corporate, commercial and industrial photography. He is currently owner of Light Impressions Photography & Design, a studio specializing in Product and Corporate Stock Photography, and he is a career and technical advisor for Attleboro High School. His work has been exhibited in the US and Great Britain, including his solo show Into the Light, Faces of Peru.

Deborah Forman: BFA, Film/Animation/Video, RISD; MED, Massachusetts College of Art; MFA, Painting, Parsons School of Design. Forman has taught at RISD, Massachusetts College of Art, Parsons School of Design and Wheaton College. An accomplished painter, she has exhibited her work at galleries throughout New England. She is an assistant professor of art at Wheaton College.

Susan Fossati: BA, Marymount College; MFA, Rosary Graduate School of Fine Arts, Florence, Italy. In addition to teaching for RISD|CE and the RISD Pre-College Program, she also teaches at CCRI. The Bellini Ruggeri Gallery in Providence currently represents her.

Susan E. Fox: BA, SUNY/Oneonta; MAE, RISD. Fox is a painter, writer, and a creative and expressive arts educator and core member in the Expressive Arts Institute at Salve Regina University. She specializes in transformational learning using art, consciousness and deep ecology. Currently she is working on a book and CD for young adults, Nature and the Art of Self-Expression.

Julie Gearan: BFA, Painting, Tyler School of Art; MFA, Painting, Indiana University. Gearan has been the recipient of grants to study at Yale University in the summer and from Indiana University for travel to Italy. She has taught at the Illinois Institute of Art and at Indiana University, and her work has been exhibited locally and nationally.

Mary Geisser: BS, Early Childhood Education, URI; MED, Creative Arts and Learning, Lesley University; PhD candidate, Educational Studies, Lesley University. Geisser is a poet, visual artist and former resident artist at AS220 and has worked as a stage manager for Perishable Theater. She was an Early Childhood Educator at Brown/Fox Point Early Childhood Education Center for four years.

Mitch Goldstein: BFA, Graphic Design, RISD. Goldstein is the principal of a small design studio in Providence. He has taught Graphic Design in the RISD degree program and other institutions in New England, and has done design work for John Hancock, the US Department of Health & Human Services and RISD's Center for Design and Business, among others. His work focuses on print and motion design, and is strongly influenced by experimental photography, expressive typography and image making.

Roland Gutierrez: BA, English, URI. Gutierrez has 18 years of experience working as a professional photographer. He owns Shane Photography, a commercial studio specializing in architectural, portrait and product photography. His work has been published in The Photo Review and Yankee Magazine, among other publications.

Louise T. Hall: BA, Maryville University; MED, Suffolk University; Graduate Studies, Northeastern University. Hall is an accredited senior appraiser of antiques and decorative arts with the American Society of Appraisers and is president of L.T. Hall Appraisals, Inc. Clients include the Vermont State House and Dartmouth College. She is a RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence.

John Hames: BA, Education, URI; MFA, Photography and MFA, Film/Video, Savannah College of Art and Design. Hames has taught at several area colleges, as well as elementary, middle and secondary schools. In 2007, he taught photography at the Beijing Institute of Clothing and Technology and at Shandong Art College. He is the recipient of various awards and fellowships for both photography and film and video, and his work has been exhibited throughout the US and in China. Hames is also a member of the Society for Photographic Education.

Kenneth Heskestad: BA, Studio Art, Psychology and Music Theory, SUNY/Geneso; MFA, Furniture Design, RISD; Teaching Certificate, Sheridan Center at Brown University. Heskestad has taught for RISD's Furniture Department. He has experience working in glass, metal and wood, and has also worked as a 3D modeler at Brown's Technology Center for Advanced Scientific Computing and Visualization.

Kerri Quinn Jaffe: Jaffe has more than 15 years of experience in event direction for such clients as Radio City Music Hall, the New York Jets and the White House. Currently the Director of Sales for Blackstone Caterers in Newport, previous positions include Director of Catering Sales for Wolfgang Puck's first Northeast catering venture; Executive Director of Hope Events, a New York City political event management firm; and directing the Rockettes in numerous special events, television appearances and theatrical spectaculars for Radio City Entertainment.

Louis Jannetta: BS, Art Education, RIC; MED, Providence College; MAE, RISD. Jannetta is an assistant principal in the Providence Public School System, where he previously taught visual arts for more than 20 years. His work is part of the permanent collection at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Museum in Chicago.

Derek Jolie: A Rhode Island native and graduate of Johnson & Wales, Jolie is Executive Chef for Blackstone Caterers. He began his career with Marriot International, and subsequently joined the Newport Harbor Corporation's culinary team. While at Blackstone Caterers, he has created dishes for some of Rhode Island's most prestigious events, including the 50th Anniversary of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the Tall Ships Gala and the US Women's Open.

Phil Keith: AB, History, Harvard College; Graduate Certificate, Labor Relations, UC Berkeley; MA, International Relations, Naval War College. After a distinguished career in the US Navy, Keith served as a senior executive in sales and marketing at three Fortune 500 companies and was a COO and CEO for two software development firms. Since 1996, he has been an independent consultant and has been on the faculty of Long Island University, RISD|CE and Roger Williams University.

Jane Kernan: BFA, Film/Animation/Video, RISD. Currently working on her own short animations, Kernan has been a Teaching Assistant for several RISD|CE and RISD Pre-College classes, and has experience in computer programming, animation, and various 3D software programs.

Evelyn Lamprey: BA, St. Anselm College. An auctioneer and appraiser, Lamprey prepares personal property appraisal reports for estate and financial planning, litigation support, insurance coverage and tax settlement. Previously, she was Art Director for Northeast Auctions in Portsmouth, NH. She has served as the Program Director of the American Society of Appraisers, NH/VT Chapter, and has held leadership positions with the State of New Hampshire Board of Auctioneers. She has been a guest lecturer and appraiser at RISD, the American Society of Appraisers, Sandwich Historical Society, Gilmanton Historical Society and Danbury Historical Society.

Kathleen Larkin-Kuhn: BFA, Printmaking, and MAT, RISD. Design coordinator at the Bren Corporation in Cranston for 12 years, Larkin-Kuhn was involved in product development and manufacturing, including work for the Joan & David line of leather accessories. Her prints and sculptures have been shown in juried and group exhibitions, and she received the RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence Award. She also teaches for the RISD Museum Education Department.

Nancy Laurienzo: BFA, Roger Williams College; Certificate, Interior Design, RISD|CE. Laurienzo specializes in interior design for hospitality projects and currently is a lead designer for TriMark United East. Prior to that she was a freelance interior designer. Clients have included South County Hospital, in South Kingstown, RI and the Atlantic Beach Club in Middletown, RI.

Amanda Lebel: BFA, Printmaking, University of Hartford; MFA, Printmaking, RISD; Certificate Program, Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning, Brown University. Lebel is owner of and instructor for her own press, Ama-Bel Press. In addition to having taught Book Arts at RISD, she has received a number of grants and fellowships, including for the moku hanga workshop at Anderson Ranch. Her work has been included in several Print Biennials, museum shows and in printmaking exhibits throughout the Northeast.

Amy Leidtke: BFA, Columbus College of Art and Design; MID, RISD. For the past 20 years, Leidtke has developed and designed toys, activities and interactive play and learning environments for families and children. She specializes in facilitating community-based design workshops, leading participatory group brainstorming sessions, developing strategic and master plans, and visualizing ideas through sketching and drawings. In addition to RISD|CE, she is also a part-time faculty member for the RISD graduate, undergraduate and Pre-College programs.

Gale Litchfield: BA, UMass; MED and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, Boston State College. Creative director and managing partner of her own advertising agency, Litchfield & Creative Partners, she has received regional and national awards for her creative excellence.

Amy Lovera: MFA, Photography, RISD; BFA, Photography & Sculpture, Massachusetts College of Art. Lovera is an award winning multimedia artist whose work has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She combines her professional experience as puppet-maker and set designer with her expertise in photography to create compelling stop-animated films. Her work was recently published in Luna Cornea, a photography journal funded by Mexico's National Council for Culture and the Arts.

Liam Maloney and Robert Aguilera: Farmstead cheesemongers Liam Maloney and Robert Aguilera have more than ten years of experience selecting and selling cheeses in Rhode Island, New York and Boston. They have gained an encyclopedic knowledge through extensive research of US and European farms and cheese-makers, and have made and cultivated cheeses in "cheese cave" settings. Both have taught cheese pairing classes for many years.

Mary Beth Meehan: MA, Photojournalism, University of Missouri; BA, English, Amherst College. Meehan is a professional photojournalist and documentary photographer whose photography has been published in DoubleTake, The New York Times, National Geographic Traveler, Time Magazine, US News & World Report, The Boston Globe Magazine and Yankee. She has lectured nationwide on the subject of documentary photography and community-based photojournalism.

Eric Paul Meier: BFA, Illustration, RISD. He is RISD's Director of Interactive Media as well as the Web Design and Development Certificate Program Advisor at RISD|CE. An interactive and multimedia designer since 1994, he was previously Director of Interactive Services for RDW Group, Inc. Meier has taught numerous RISD|CE courses and has received several arts-in-education grants from RISCA.

Marianne Migliori: BFA, Graphic Design, RISD. Formerly a graphic designer with firms in Chicago, Houston, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and an art director with public relations and advertising agencies, Migliori is currently a freelance graphic designer in Providence.

Carlotta Danzante Miller: BFA, West Chester University; MFA, Visual Design/Textiles, UMass Dartmouth. Miller has been teaching for nearly 20 years at schools throughout the Northeast. She has worked for 6 years as a colorist for the textile industry and is currently working as a pattern designer (for space/flight suits) at David Clark Co., Inc. Her quilts, constructed of hand printed fabrics, and hand woven wall hangings have been exhibited throughout the country.

Lauren Minco: BFA, Illustration, RISD. Minco has shown her work in numerous galleries and does freelance work for such clients as Scholastic Press and various magazines. She is on the faculty of Montserrat College of Art. Anna Mogilevsky: BFA, Painting, RISD; MFA, Painting, Massachusetts College of Art. In addition to RISD|CE, Mogilevsky also teaches at Northeastern University and the New England Institute of Technology. She is a painter and actively exhibits her work both nationally and internationally, and has been in numerous juried shows.

Renee Monteiro-Bernard: BFA, Industrial Design, RISD; MFA, Jewelry/Light Metals, UMass/Dartmouth. Currently a toy model maker and lighting designer for Swan Design in Pawtucket, as well as a freelance display designer, Monteiro-Bernard has worked for Exhibit Group Giltspur, whose clients included Heinle and Heinle, General Cigar and Sophos Computer Anti-Virus. She has won numerous awards, both for her display design work and jewelry designs, including two recent awards from the New England Chapter of the International Precious Metals Institute.

Brian Mullen: BS, Computer Science, URI; Certificate, Interactive Digital Media, International Certificate Program for New Media. A production manager and web developer, Mullen's projects have included a finger-painting inspired screen interface and a 3D animated train wreck. Currently he is system administrator for Maya projects at the 3D Group for Interactive Visualization.

Susan Mullins: BS, Clothing and Textile Design, Framingham State College. A Boston-based fashion stylist, Mullins is an expert seamstress and global shopper experienced with many facets of the apparel industry. As the owner and founder of SusanStyle - The Educated Stylist, she accompanies clients on personal shopping trips, conducts in-home wardrobe consultations and lectures on appropriate dress to colleges and corporations. She has been featured in The Boston Globe, Boston Herald and Boston Magazine and is a member of the Museum of Fine Arts Fashion Council.

Cheryl Kirk Noll: BS, Education, Lebanon Valley College; BFA, Illustration, RISD. Noll is an award-winning children's book illustrator who has illustrated more than 20 books for clients including Scholastic and Harcourt. Her work focuses on historic and multicultural stories. She is the Advisor for the RISD|CE Children's Book Illustration Certificate Program, and a RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence.

Dennis O'Brien: BFA, Pratt Institute; MA, Syracuse University. With extensive experience in illustration, cartography, exhibit design and archeology, O'Brien has worked at Harvard University Press, Smithsonian Institution Press, the American Museum of Natural History and the US Department of the Interior.

Patrick O'Connor: BFA, Industrial Design, RISD. O'Connor has taught industrial design and film classes at the Wheeler School in Providence. Since 2003 he has done both freelance toy design work and video editing for Hasbro Toys in Pawtucket.

Stephanie Obodda: Certificate, International Certificate Program for New Media, RISD; additional studies at Fraunhofer Center for Research in Computer Graphics; AB, Germanic Languages and Literature, Princeton University. A designer at Digication, a firm specializing in websites and web-based applications, Obodda also served as an intern for Fraunhofer CRCG and webmaster at WPRB 103.3 FM.

Margaret Ordonez: PhD, Florida State University. Ordonez is the Director of the Historic Textile and Costume Collection at the University of Rhode Island. Her research interests include archaeological textiles and problems in the conservation of historic textiles and costumes. She has authored numerous scholarly articles, especially with her colleague Linda Welters, with whom she co-edited the book Down by the Old Mill Stream: Quilts in Rhode Island.

Erin Oda Osman: BA, Ceramics, Providence College; BFA, Ceramics, and MAT, RISD. Osman teaches visual arts in the East Greenwich Public School System and also owns a small ceramics business called Animalware Studio. She received the RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence Award.

Matthew Paknis: AB, Organizational Behavior and Business Management, Minor in Architecture, Brown University; MBA, International Sports Management, URI. Paknis is founder of Matt Paknis Training and Development, Inc., with more than 17 years of experience delivering retreats, seminars, writings and long-term development programs to help individuals and organizations improve performance.

David Paolino: BSET, Wentworth Institute of Technology; BFA, Illustration, and MA, Art Education, RISD. Paolino has practiced architectural, interior, electronic and mechanical design since 1967, has taught at Wentworth Institute for 20 years, and is the Advisor for RISD|CE's Interior Design Certificate Program.

Crystal Paolucci: BS, Art Education, Rhode Island College. In addition to teaching for RISD|CE, Paolucci runs an after-school program in mural artistry at Bain Middle School in Cranston. A painter, she is a member of the Rhode Island Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association.

Elena M. Pascarella: BLA and BFA, RISD; graduate studies, Landscape Architecture, University of Virginia. Pascarella is an award-winning landscape architect with her own practice, which serves clients in southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island. She has worked on a wide range of public-sector and private projects. She is an adjunct faculty member in URI's Landscape Architecture Department, and is a contributing writer for a landscape design column in Grace, a bimonthly magazine published by The Day (New London, CT).

Michael Peery: BFA, Fine Art, Utah State University; MFA, Painting, New York Academy of Fine Arts. Peery is a painter and has taught at the Lyme Academy, New York Academy and the Woodstock School of Art. He has won numerous awards and has had both solo and group exhibits of his work including at the Golden Street Gallery in New London, CT and The Fort Wayne Museum of Art.

Jessica Lee Perry: BS, Art Education, SUNY/Buffalo. Perry's teaching experience includes work with the Heritage Education Program for physically and developmentally disabled children, as well as work at the Kings Urban Life Center. She works as an art teacher for the Wolf School and is working toward an MA in art education at Lesley University.

Frank Piccirillo: BS, Art Education, and BFA, Painting, RIC. He is a certified art teacher currently working at the Paul Cuffee School West. His artwork has been exhibited in the Providence area.

David Planka: BFA, Illustration, Ringling School of Art and Design; BS, Art Education, RIC; A.F.A., Fine Art, CCRI. Planka is an illustrator who specializes in a wide variety of media, and is currently working on a series of fine art paintings and drawings.

Sharon Pollock: BFA, Ceramics, University of Minnesota; BS, Art Education, SUNY/Buffalo; MFA, Ceramics, Swain School of Design at Boston University. Pollock has taught at area colleges, served as Director of the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, and lectured for the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts. She is also an exhibiting studio artist.

Melinda Rainsberger: BFA, Film, Animation and Video, RISD. Rainsberger has developed and led video and illustration programs for the Rhode Island Children's Crusade AmeriCorps Program and is a practicing illustrator and animator. She specializes in applying personal experiences to her fantastical stories. She is currently working on a comic book combining her love of science fiction and scary things with tentacles.

Bill Riker: BFA, Glass, Alfred University; MFA, Glass/Sculpture, RISD. Riker has operated a glass studio since 1975, and he is proprietor of Riker Art Glass, based in East Providence. His work is exhibited at craft galleries throughout the US.

Bryan Rodrigues: BA, History and Education, RIC; International Certificate Program for New Media, IMedia. Rodrigues has taught graphic design at Katherine Gibbs School, as well as computer graphics courses for IMedia and the Learning Connection. He is also the head product designer at Zultan International.

Cynthia Ross-Meeks: BFA, Fashion Design and Art Education, and MAE, RISD. A freelance fashion designer, Ross-Meeks has designed bridal and sportswear collections and produced doll and soft good designs, patterns, and samples for mass production at Hasbro. She has taught fashion design and currently teaches visual arts in the Providence Public School System, and she has been Resident Costume Designer for Brown University's Rites and Reasons Theatre since 1999. Her work has been exhibited at The RISD Museum and other local galleries.

Eve S. Rounds: AB, Stanford University; graduate, School of American Ballet. Rounds was a professional ballet dancer and a producer of Dance Visions in Boston. Formerly a corporate buyer for Macy's, Rounds is a Wardrobe Consultant and Clientele Specialist for Banana Republic and a Sales Consultant for Etcetera.

Thad Russell: BA, International Relations, Stanford University; MFA, Photography, RISD; teaching certificate, Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning, Brown University. Russell is a freelance photographer whose clients have included Los Angeles Times Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, New York Magazine and United Airlines. An adjunct faculty member for RISD's Photography Department, he has also worked as an advertising art director and graphic designer.

Derek Schusterbauer: BA, Art History, SUNY Plattsburgh; Certificate, Print Design Process + Production, RISD|CE. Schusterbauer is a freelance graphic designer and is currently the Assistant for Exhibition Design and Support at The RISD Museum of Art. He has worked in the Art Department of local product design company Judy Vilmain, Inc., has been a volunteer educator and graphic designer for New Urban Arts, where he is now a board member, and helped found the Providence Community Printshop at AS220.

Susan Sklarek: BA, French and Philosophy, University of California at Santa Barbara; MA, Textile Design, California State University; MFA, Sculpture, RISD. Sklarek's work includes freelance design for industry, woven illustrations for advertising, and sculptural fiber pieces for exhibition. She teaches in the Textile Design Department at RISD.

Libby Slader: BS, Environmental Design, Syracuse University. Currently a designer for Morris Nathanson Design, Inc., a Pawtucket based firm specializing in restaurant and commercial design. Slader was previously a Design Manager for Sony Pictures Entertainment, as well as project manager/designer for Concepts 4, Inc. specializing in new construction and hotel refurbishment. Other credits include design development for Rolf Karl Architects, specializing in design for retail and healthcare facilities. She is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers.

Mona Miller Smith: BA, UCLA; Graduate Gemologist in residence, GIA; Principal, Pacific Gem Labs, Portland, OR. A Master Gemologist Appraiser and member of GG/ASA/NGJA, Miller Smith has 23 years experience in the jewelry industry performing appraisals, consulting and forensics. She is currently an ASA course developer.

Daniel Snydacker: PhD, early American History, Johns Hopkins University. Snydacker was Executive Director of the Newport Historical Society for 22 years, and also served on the Rhode Island Historical Preservation Commission. Projects included re-surveying the Newport National Historic District, restoring the Great Friends Meeting House, the Wanton-Lyman-Hazard House and the Brick Market, where he helped create the Museum of Newport History. He is currently Executive Director of Pequot Library in Southport, CT., where he led a restoration project which won an Historic Preservation Award from the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation. He also teaches at Fairfield University.

Fred Spencer: AA, Antelope Valley College; studies in film and 3D animation and modeling, UCLA Extension. Spencer has more than 11 years experience in content, conceptual, multimedia, graphic and print design. As creative director for MAAS Designs, Inc. in Brownwood, TX, he developed marketing materials for print and the web, and developed an intranet and order tracking system. He is proficient in design applications and web authoring tools, and has taught web design courses at Antelope Valley College.

Bruce Stahnke: BS and MArch, Washington University in St. Louis. Stahnke has practiced as an architect in St. Louis, Chicago and Boston, and has specialized in green design and consulting at Stahnke + Kitagawa Architects in Maine since 2001. Member of the US Green Building Council and a founding board member of the Maine chapter of the USGBC, he has consulted on buildings that received LEED certification. Current projects include the Darwin Project, a biodiversity museum and botanical garden in Boston.

Douglas Stern: BFA, Industrial Design, and BID, RISD. Stern has 20 years of experience in industrial design, and is now owner and president of Fulcrum Product Development. Clients include Cuisinart, Kodak, Hasbro, GTECH and Lightolier. His work has earned him awards from the Industrial Design Society of America, the Annual Krups Competition, and others. He is also a recipient of RISD|CE's Teacher of Excellence Award.

Prudence Stoddard: Certificate, Interior Design, RISD|CE. Stoddard has designed almost 200 kitchen and bath remodeling projects for RI Kitchen & Bath. She has conducted product training throughout southern New England for DuPont Corian and has appeared as the featured designer on Cox Cable's RI Homes Magazine. She was the first-place award recipient for creativity in kitchen design in New England (2004) and the Northeast Region (2005).

Kristin Street: BFA, Textile Design, RISD; MFA, Studio Art, Maryland Institute College of Art. Street was formerly visual arts coordinator at Moses Brown School, where she is still an arts educator and the director of its Krause Gallery. She has exhibited extensively throughout the US, and her work is included in several private collections. She is a RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence.

Steven Subotnick: MFA, Experimental Animation, California Institute of the Arts; BFA, Motion Graphics, California Institute of the Arts; BA, Film/Video, UCLA. A freelance animator and director, Subotnick's works include Glass Crow, Devil's Book, and Hairyman. He has taught animation at RISD, Harvard University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and is the author of Animation in the Home Digital Studio. He is advisor for the RISD|CE Computer Animation Certificate Program.

Lori Surdut-Weinberg: BFA, Illustration, and MAE, RISD. A published illustrator of children's educational books, her work has been widely exhibited. She was also Creative Director for American Stationery Co., and her work has been featured in Artists Magazine and in the Italian magazine D&D. She is a RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence.

Eric Taylor: Taylor has more than 18 years of restaurant experience, having worked his way up the ranks from his beginnings as a dishwasher. As a server, he gleened all he could from wine experts in Chicago, to become a wine captain at restaurants in Seattle, which ultimately led him to Rhode Island and La Laiterie, where he is General Manager and Sommelier. Like Farmstead/La Laiterie's cheesemongers, he has submerged himself in researching wines and sharing his expertise.

Islay Taylor: BFA, Sculpture and Printmaking, Alfred University; MFA, Jewelry and Metalsmithing, RISD; Certificate, Collegiate Teaching Preparation, Brown University. Taylor is the director of Hera Gallery in Wakefield, RI. Her work has been exhibited in numerous shows including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland and the Gallery of Art in Legnica, Poland. She received the Emerging Designer Award from the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art. Her work incorporates found objects and industrial materials and investigates the themes of disuse and reclamation in the urban landscape.

Alec Thibodeau: BA, Bowdoin College. Thibodeau is a screen-print artist who runs his own printmaking facility in Providence. He is a screen-print mentor and has worked at Upward Bound in Maine. He has had numerous exhibits of his prints and most recently his work was included in The RISD Museum's Wunderground show and in Currency: Art as Money, Money as Art at the Brogan Museum in Tallahassee, Florida.

Mia Thompson: MAT, RISD. A teacher at Forest Park Elementary School in North Kingstown, Thompson was the recipient of a Feinstein Grant in 2008. She is an executive board member of the Rhode Island Art Education Association and is Rhode Island Chair for Youth Art Month. Her work has been exhibited at the Providence Art Club, RIAEA Annual Juried Exhibition, North Kingstown Library and various galleries.

Bruce Tillinghast: BA, Graphic Design, RISD. A former art teacher in the Providence public school system, Tillinghast opened New Rivers restaurant in 1990 after training with renowned French chef Madeleine Kamman.

Marc Torick: BFA, University of the Arts; MFA, New York Academy of Art. He has taught in RISD's Illustration Department and in the Fine Arts Department at UMass/Dartmouth. He also painted for the 1996 Olympic Games project at Malcolm Grear Designers, and for Kips Bay Designer Showhouse.

John Tschirch: MA, Architectural History and Historic Preservation, University of Virginia. Tschirch is an architectural historian for the Preservation Society of Newport County, specializing in the evolution of historic houses, interiors and landscapes. He has lectured on these subjects in Europe, South America and the US. His essay "Newport Castle" was published in Encyclopedia of New England.

Michael Underhill: Underhill attended Pratt Institute. He is a toy designer/illustrator/cartoonist whose full-page syndicated comic strip appeared in 32 newspapers. He has developed toys for Hasbro, Mattel, Playmates, Tyco, Kenner and the Original San Francisco Toymakers, and was named Children's Museum of Rhode Island Volunteer of the Year in 1996.

Alicia Uth: BS, Art Education, RIC. Alicia is a printmaker with recent exhibitions at the Warwick Museum of Art and the Krauss Gallery at Moses Brown School. She has taught workshops for young artists at The RISD Museum, the Summer Arts Program at the Warwick Museum, and for the town of East Greenwich.

Kurt Van Dexter: BLA, URI; MAT, RISD. A registered landscape architect, designer and painter, as well as a certified K-12 visual arts teacher, Van Dexter has worked with many schools to develop gardens and outdoor classrooms. His paintings have won numerous awards and have been exhibited in the US and abroad. He runs a landscape architecture and design business.

Michael Veracka: BA, English, Providence College; MLA, RISD. Veracka owns a landscape design and construction business. His work has won numerous design awards and has been featured in Garden Design Magazine and Organic Gardening Magazine. He has taught at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University.

Wayne Vieira: BFA, Illustration, RISD. He is Vice President of Design Services at Advertising Ventures Inc., where he directs all aspects of design projects, including advertising campaigns, print publications, collateral materials, websites, and interactive media for companies such as AOL, CVS/pharmacy, Textron, Geneva Pharmaceuticals, and COX Communications. Previously Vieira served as Art Director for Medical World Publishing Company.

Evan Villari: BA, Communications Studies, URI. A filmmaker, writer and musician, Villari is founder of EViL Films, an independent film and video production company. His work has appeared on the Discovery Channel and he recently shot a series of television spots for the JMW School for the Arts in Pawtucket. His film writings have been featured in Providence Monthly and in The Agenda. A multi-format project on the identity of the ever-developing city he calls home, Providence, is currently in its production phase.

Dina Zaccagnini Vincent: BFA, Graphic Design, BGD and MAT, RISD. Vincent is Advisor for the RISD|CE Print Design Process and Production Certificate Program. Previously, she was senior designer in RISD's Design Marketing Collaborative and a designer at plus design inc., Boston. She has received awards from the AIGA, American Center for Design 100 Show, Graphis, Print, and the Type Directors Club and is a RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence.

Barbara Voccola: BFA, Graphic Design, and MAT, RISD. Voccola has taught secondary and elementary students and was involved in Studio in the Museum at Veazie Street Elementary School. She is a visual arts teacher in Cranston and is a RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence.

Blue Wade: BA, Practice of Art and Interdisciplinary Studies, University of California/Berkeley; Studies in Maori Art and Culture, Massey University; MFA, Digital Media, RISD. Wade has taught art in primary and secondary schools and art centers for more than ten years. She has also taught rapid prototyping in the RISD degree programs. Her work has been exhibited in New York, California, Rhode Island and New Zealand.

Lydia Walshin: BA, Journalism, Douglass College. Walshin was until recently a contributing editor and award-winning food writer for Rhode Island Monthly magazine, where she wrote a column called Local Flavor. Her cookbook, South End Cooks: Recipes from a Boston Neighborhood, highlights the multi-ethnic cooking of one of Boston's most diverse communities. An experienced cooking instructor, Walshin runs Ninecooks.com, which brings groups together in the kitchen for cooking, laughter and learning, and writes a popular food blog called The Perfect Pantry. She is the founder of Drop In & Decorate Cookies for Donation.

Glenn S. Webber: MA, Media Studies, Rhode Island College. Final Cut Pro certified. Webber is an independent filmmaker specializing in horror movies, international documentaries, and multi-screen video installation art. He recently completed a multi-screen documentary on immigration for the Armenian Historical Association of Rhode Island. A student of Academy and Emmy Award recipient Thomas A. Ohanian, Webber is currently making a feature horror film based in Rhode Island, as well as a multi-screen international documentary on Argentine tango.

Linda Welters: PhD, University of Minnesota. Welters is the chair of the Department of Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design at the University of Rhode Island and Director of the department's Graduate Program. In addition to having published numerous scholarly articles on fashion and textiles, she was a contributing editor for the book, Down by the Old Mill Stream: Quilts in Rhode Island. She is Editor-in-Chief of Dress, Journal of the Costume Society of America and serves on the board of the Rhode Island Committee for the Humanities.

Marla Whitford: BFA, Illustration, RISD. Currently a Senior Store Designer for Talbots, Whitford has 19 years experience in retail store design, planning and construction. Previously, she served as a store planner for Marshall Fields, Mervyn's and Target, and as Senior Manager for Crabtree & Evelyn's Global Store Planning & Design Division. She has also done freelance design work for Hasbro Toys and Scarborough & Company and has taught for Quinebaug Valley Community College.

Cathy Wilkerson: BFA, Textile Design, RISD. A buyer and merchandiser in the home furnishings industry for almost two decades, Wilkerson has developed product with leading textiles manufacturers in Europe, India and the US. She is currently the Southern New England Territory Manager for both Carole and Tapestria Fabrics.

Ryder Windham: BFA, Illustration/Graphic Design, UMass/Dartmouth. Formerly a freelance illustrator, graphic designer, and comic book editor, Windham has been a freelance writer since 1995. He is the author of more than 70 published books, including many Star Wars titles for Scholastic, Dark Horse Comics, Random House, and Del Rey. He has also written comic book tie-ins for The Matrix and Godzilla, a series of nonfiction educational books, and animation scripts for DIC and Walt Disney Television. His creator-owned titles include the comic series Trouble Magnet: The Adventures of Witlock the Robot and the children's picture book Twelve Melvins.

Robin Wiseman: BFA, Architecture, and BAR, RISD; MFA, Drawing, UMass/Dartmouth. Wiseman has taught at RISD, RIC and Brandeis University. Besides RISD|CE, he currently teaches at the Massachusetts College of Art. He has received a Church Award in teaching and the RISD|CE Teacher of Excellence Award, and his work has appeared in galleries and shows throughout New England.

Amy Bartlett Wright: BA, University of Maryland; Certificate, Scientific and Technical Illustration, RISD|CE. An accomplished freelance scientific illustrator, author and muralist, Wright has done work for Guinness, Save The Bay, National Geographic Society, Boston Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, Roger Williams Park Zoo, Staten Island Zoo and Buttonwood Park Zoo. She is also a member of the Society of Animal Artists. Her 10' x 30' mural for the Save The Bay education center was unveiled in February 2006. She is currently Advisor for RISD|CE's Natural Science Illustration Certificate Program.

Richard Youngken: Master of Community Planning, URI; BA, Art History and Sociology, Duke University. With 30 years of experience in historic preservation, community planning and urban design, Youngken is the Executive Director of The Dunn Foundation, based in Newport, RI. Previously, he was the Planning Director for Newport Collaborative Architects and the Town Planner for East Greenwich, RI. He is the author of African-Americans in Newport, 1700-1945 and serves on the Board of Advisors for the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Adrian Burke Zeller: BS, Studio Art: Textile Design and Photography, Skidmore College; AAS, Apparel Design and Service, Seattle Central Community College; MFA, Design and Technology, Parsons School of Design. Zeller specializes in computer-aided design for the apparel and textile industries and works as a technology consultant, CAD textile designer and graphic artist in New York City and Boston.

Walter Zesk: BA, Wesleyan University; Sheridan Teaching Certificate, Brown University. MArch candidate, RISD. Prior to beginning the MArch program at RISD, Zesk worked on Cape Cod building custom wooden sailboats. He was awarded third place in the 2008 Lyceum Competition, a national design contest, and has also been awarded a fellowship to study complex emergent systems at the Santa Fe Institute.

Julie Zito: Bachelor of Architecture, University of Miami. Zito, along with her sister, Lisa Constantino, and their father, opened The Pastry Gourmet in 1990. With retail locations in Cumberland, North Providence and Wickford, as well as a number of wholesale accounts, The Pastry Gourmet offers a wide variety of baked items, including custom cakes, cookies, mousse cakes, cheesecakes, wedding cakes, pastries, breads and bagels.
