Please join us at RISD on Wednesday, February 25, from 6-9:15pm for a reception and panel discussion around a live broadcast of the MIT Enterprise Forum's Paint It Black: Avoiding the Financial Beast of Burden in 2009 and Beyond. The free program (with cash bar) takes place in the Chace Center's Metcalf Auditorium at 20 North Main Street and features RISD panelists Everett Bramhall '85 SC of Swing Design, Steven Lane '85 ID and Aidan Petrie MID '85 of Item Group Ximedica and Denyse Schmidt '92 GD of Denyse Schmidt Quilts.

Even though we've all faced a bit too much reality lately, alumni interested in brushing up on career skills should check out the free Reality Check seminars offered by RISD Career Services. Some things don't go out of style, and having a strong résumé, effective cover letter and portfolio are more important than ever as you fight off recession demons.

Accomplished animator/illustrator David Polonsky, who received a Golden Globe and has been nominated for an Oscar for art directing the animated film Waltz with Bashir, is in residence at Brown|RISD Hillel during spring semester. He'll answer questions after a 5pm screening of the film this afternoon at Avon Cinema, 260 Thayer Street in Providence, and will be involved in many other upcoming events open to members of the RISD community.

As part of the annual Silk Road Project residency at RISD, Henrik Søderstrøm '08 FD will lead a discussion about the set he designed for Layla and Majnun, the Silk Road Ensemble's new multimedia chamber piece. Henrik will speak at 3pm on March 4 in the Tap Room (4th floor of Memorial Hall), where his sketches, materials and models for the design will also be on view. On Friday, March 6 the piece makes its US debut in a public performance by Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
