Research is fundamental to RISD’s mission, both in terms of supporting studio and classroom learning and personal creative explorations. The Faculty Research Office in Academic Affairs assists full- and part-time curators, faculty and librarians with grant-writing and other funding advice to help facilitate research proposals. The Professional Development Fund offers full or partial funding for faculty projects, based on a six-month cycle for considering grant proposals and the RISD Research Foundation offers funds for research support. Priority is given to projects that make a positive impact on the fields of art and design, on people’s lives, the environment and RISD’s mission. Faculty also turn to outside sources for research funding as well. For information on specific initiatives, follow the links above.
