CAN YOU APPLY TO D+M WITH A CS DEGREE OR EE DEGREE?
D+M accepts applications from candidates with either CS or EE backgrounds if their portfolio and/or skill base is appropriate.
IF I AM A MEDIA DESIGNER IS D+M THE RIGHT PLACE FOR ME?
D+M accepts designers but is very clear about being driven by the creative exploration of digital media. Thus, we educate for the designer of the future in an environment where you set your own design brief in consultation with full- and part-time faculty.
DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM TO JOIN THE DEPARTMENT?
We are looking for people with four years of experience with digital media of different kinds. You need not be a programmer to apply.
CAN I TRANSFER INTO THE PROGRAM?
We do not accept transfer applicants. The program is a rigorous, full-time, two-year course of study. Many students enter the program having both previous art degrees and teaching experience.
WHAT KIND OF STUDENTS ENROLL IN D+M? Each of our students is unique. Our node classes are diverse and the potential is to combine node classes and other classes at RISD and Brown University in a creative and unique manner for each student. We suggest that you look closely at the node class offerings before entering the department.
WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF APPLICANTS? We seek to accept students who are highly self-motivated.
WHERE CAN I FIND A PLACE TO LIVE IN PROVIDENCE? We provide a review of the citys neighborhoods and point candidates to listings on the RISD intranet, the Brown Housing site and craigslist.
