High-res is a term used to describe an image that has been brought into greater clarity higher resolution. How can we bring the future into HI RES? The works featured here demonstrate the enormous potential artists and designers have to radically re-envision the world around us.
First presented as an exhibition and publication in spring 2007, HI RES highlights RISD student work that focuses on the opportunities and imperatives in our changing world. These are the images, objects, structures and experiences that will move the world towards a better, more sustainable future.
As a school of art and design, RISD inhabits a unique position where poetic vision can inspire design solutions to address real-world concerns. HI RES presents works from graduate and undergraduate students in the fine arts and design disciplines, de-emphasizing the distinctions between departments and focusing instead on the larger themes that connect our practices. It is our hope that HI RES will inspire artists and designers to see current problems as opportunities for creative practice.
