RISD offers a variety of housing options tailored to the needs of students at different ages and stages. Whether you live in the Quad halls, historic Hill Houses, more traditional apartments or new riverfront lofts, youll discover that RISD students not only study here, they also immerse themselves fully in the life of the campus community. They share a passion for hard work and intellectual and artistic curiosity.
RISD requires all freshmen and sophomores to live on campus. Freshmen are housed in the First-Year Quad, while sophomores choose between a variety of upperclass housing options. Juniors and seniors, and fifth-year and graduate students are not required to live on campus, but often choose RISD housing because of the proximity to studios and the social advantages of living with fellow students. Because upperclass students tend to want the same conveniences and flexibility, but with greater independence, we offer housing options that cater to a range of lifestyle choices.
Click on the on-campus housing link to the left to learn about all of RISDs living options. We also provide interested students with information about living off campus.
