Michael Magee, IPACT Coordinator
The Institute for Poetic Arts + Critical Theory (IPACT) is an intensive, immersive series of courses, seminars, readings, discussions and special events that emphasize the positive impact of the visual arts and critical theory on creative writers and their work. Led by RISDs creative writing faculty as well as renowned writers in the worlds of poetry and the visual arts, IPACT is designed for creative writers looking to break down barriers and expand their intellectual/cultural horizons. The Institutes three-week courses, two-day seminars, as well as readings, discussions and weekly open mike nights in Providences Downcity Arts District are designed to encourage participants to take advantage of the wealth of poetry and visual art resources in and around RISD. IPACT provides a unique opportunity for students to involve themselves fully in a multi-disciplinary world of art making and art welcoming a world where creative writers and visual artists collaboratively propose what words and forms the future will hold.
