The mission established in 1877 by Rhode Island School of Designs founders remains consistent today: to aid in the cultivation of the arts and design, and the general advancement of public Art Education and the application of the principles of Art to the requirements of trade and manufacture.
Through The RISD Museum and Continuing Education, RISD offers a rich variety of classes, lectures, workshops, gallery talks and other events designed to engage young artists and adults. These programs include credit-bearing courses in summer and a six-week Pre-College program designed specifically for high school students.
