Kawase Shinobu (Japanese, born 1950)
Vase 2004
porcelain, celadon glaze
7 3/4 x 7 1/8"
Lisle Endowment Fund 2005.29
To enhance the Japanese ceramics collection, the Museum has recently been acquiring examples of contemporary works. This vase by Kawase Shinobu was selected for its novelty of technique and its experimentation with innovative, difficult glazing. The vase is a strikingly beautiful example of the great ceramic skill that is still a vital part of the East Asian artistic tradition.
