By way of New York and Baltimore, Emily Rye is originally from the mountains of Colorado. She is co-principal of Design Agency, a Rhode Island-based studio that offers brand strategy, graphic design and organizational development to a broad spectrum of nonprofit clients working on issues from food system enterprise to cultural heritage to prison reform. Her collaborative thesis, also called Design Agency, laid the groundwork for her current practice as an inquiry into design as a form of one’s personal agency.
In Rye’s classroom, curiosity is king. She encourages students to fall in love with typography through observation, exploration and form making.
