Joseph Aaron Segal was raised in the Boston area of Massachusetts and now resides in Providence. He earned his BFA from the University of Massachusetts and completed the MFA program in Textiles at RISD in 2009. He currently teaches Industrial Knitting at RISD while working as a freelance knitwear designer and lead designer for his two brands, World of JAS and Pretty Snake.
Segal has had the opportunity to collaborate, consult and design for a variety of fashion designers, artists and yarn companies. In 2009 he launched his first high-end apparel collection, World of JAS, which features handmade clothing created with specialty knitted and printed textiles. The World of JAS and Pretty Snake collections are sold in boutiques and online shops globally from Providence, RI to Tokyo, Japan and have been featured in Stitches, Surface and Fiber Arts Magazine.
