Lindsey Beal

Lindsey Beal is a photo-based artist in coastal Rhode Island, where she teaches at RISD and in the New Hampshire Institute of Art’s MFA program. She has an MFA in Photography from the University of Iowa and a Certificate in Book Arts from the University of Iowa’s Center for the Book. Her work can be found at Portland’s 23 Sandy Gallery, Boston’s Panopticon Gallery and Miami’s Dina Mitrani Gallery.

Beal’s work combines historical and contemporary women’s lives with historical photographic processes. She is interested in the photograph as object and often includes sculpture, papermaking and artist books in her work. Her pieces have been shown at national museums, galleries and universities; she recently presented a solo show at the Griffin Museum of Photography; and she is currently preparing for a solo show at the Danforth Art Museum. Her work is also included in various public and private collections, including the Kinsey Institute and the Indie Photobook Library. She has been featured onLenscratch, LensCulture, Light Leaked and 365 Artists and has had work published in Diffusion, The Hand, View Camera and 500 Handmade Books, Vol. Two. She recently earned a travel grant from Duke University and an Honorable Mention for Center Forward 2014 at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO.
