SECTION DESCRIPTION

Graduate Language Intensive is an elective course for incoming multilingual/international graduate students in any department who want to work on their communication skills before the first semester. As a structured warm-up to their degree program, it will support students in developing academic, studio, and conversational skills in English. The immersive schedule includes a variety of interactive lessons, independent assignments, visits to campus resources, and one-on-one meetings with the instructor. Students will access and learn to use the Center for Arts & Language’s resources on writing, reference lists for disciplinary terminology, readings, and other materials. The primary objectives are for students to come away with an expanded vocabulary, greater confidence in speaking and writing about art and design, and a practice-based introduction to some primary characteristics of American academic culture.
