Sarah Sullivan

As RISD’s senior director of Institutional Engagement, Sarah Sullivan is responsible for leading college advancement by overseeing strategic fundraising initiatives, alumni relations, annual giving and other special projects.

Sullivan has more than 25 years of experience working in higher education and with such cultural organizations as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Getty Museum and the Hammer Museum. For 15 years, she has held development positions with increasing levels of responsibility, most notably working as the director of Campus Development Initiative at Art Center College of Design; executive director of development at California Institute of the Arts; and chief advancement officer at the Southern California Institute of Architecture. Her broad experience in fundraising includes working with boards of directors, faculty members and students to increase scholarships, along with capital, programmatic and general operating support. Prior to these recent development leadership positions, she worked in the field of corporate, foundation and government giving.

Sullivan holds a master’s degree in Medieval History from UCLA and bachelor’s degrees in Art History and French from the University of Texas/Austin.
