William Porter has been in the construction industry since 2009. Starting as a construction laborer, he learned construction tasks under carpenters, masons, electricians and plumbers and was quickly promoted to site superintendent, a position in which he focused on scheduling, coordination of trades and jobsite safety. His interests led him to study structural engineering at the University of Massachusetts, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2013.
Porter started his architecture career with a firm that specialized in residential wood-framed construction, and with his background in commercial construction he helped to expand the firm’s presence in the commercial design arena. Since 2015 he has been working at Structures Workshop in Providence, where he has worked with architects and contractors on design of new structures and with steel fabricators on steel connection design. He is currently working to attain a license in structural engineering.
