Housing Selection for Returning and Continuing Students


DATES AND DEADLINES

  • Housing Portal Opens: February 4th  
  • Deposit Deadline: February 18th

ONLINE ROOM SELECTION

  • Housing Portal Website Address: starrez.risd.edu  
  • Online Room Selection is a three part process:
    1. Paying your Housing Deposit by Monday, February 18th  
    2. Filling out the housing application in the Housing Portal before Monday, February 25th  
    3. Logging into the Housing Portal at your assigned timeslot and selecting a room
  • To gain access to the housing application you have to pay your housing deposit. If you have not paid your housing deposit, you will not be able to access the housing portal or application.
  • Once you have paid your housing deposit, log into the Housing Portal and follow the directions. You will need to select the term for which you are applying for housing. Make sure you are signing up for the academic year 2013-2014. Once you have selected the term you are applying for housing, make sure that your student account information is correct and to fill out your profile information. If you do not fill out your housing application by Monday, February 25th, you will not receive a room selection timeslot and you will not be able to participate in online room selection.  
  • Upon filling out you housing application:
    • If you are a rising Junior, Senior, or Graduate student, you will have the option to renew your current bed (‘squat’ your room) on Saturday, March 2nd or you can pick a new room through the online room selection process.
    • If you are a rising Sophomore student, you will have to pick a new room through the online room selection process.
    • All students will receive a timeslot (the date and time you can pick your room) on Friday, March 1st.  
  • The online room selection days are:
    • Saturday, March 2nd Renew Current Bed (Squatting) Selection for all Rising Juniors, Rising Seniors/5th years, and Returning Graduate students.
    • Saturday, March 9th for all Rising Juniors, Rising Seniors/5th years, and Returning Graduate students.
    • Saturday, March 16th for all Rising Sophomores 

HOUSING DEPOSITS

  • The housing deposit deadline is Monday, February 18, 2012.  All housing deposits must be paid to the RISD Student Accounts Office (First Floor, 20 Washington Place) in order to participate in any part of the Room Selection Process. Please make your check payable to RISD, include your RISD ID#, and indicate “Housing Deposit” on the check.
  • The Student Accounts Office will only accept personal checks or cashier's check. Please do not pay the housing deposit with cash.
  • The deposit amount is $750.
  • Housing deposits are non-refundable once a room assignment is chosen. The deposit is credited toward the fall semester room charge. If the deadline or the amount of the deposit poses a financial hardship, you will need to submit an online Housing Deposit Payment Agreement Form with the Office of Residence Life. Residence Life, in conjunction with Financial Aid, will grant approval on a case by case basis.
  • It is only necessary to submit a housing deposit if you plan to live on campus next year (2013-14) and wish to choose a room during online Room Selection.
  • All rising sophomores (current first year students) are required to live in on-campus housing for their sophomore year and are required to submit a housing deposit.
