Sissi Westerberg holds an MFA from the department of Jewelry and Metal Craft at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Apart from showing in major art and craft exhibitions around the world, she also organizes international workshops, exhibitions and artist residencies in the rural Swedish town of Rejmyre as one of the founders of Rejmyre Art LAB Projects. Since 2003 she has been a part of the Stockholm-based art/craft/design collective S-U-B.
Westerberg has a background in jewelry, though her most recent works include sculpture, installation video and photography. Her interest in adornment has evolved into her current focus on the body itself. Through various mediums, she explores the body’s meanings and forms in relation to beauty, sexuality, public space and nature. Westerberg mostly works with materials such as silicone and plastic, evoking the contrast between mass-produced, industrially made objects and the body. She also has a strong interest in craft materials and techniques, often incorporating their language into her installations and sculptures.
