Spencer Hayden

Critic

Spencer Hayden is a designer and educator with experience in a wide array of architectural projects ranging from small-scale pavilions to large cultural institutions. He works from the belief that architecture is a series of equally weighted yet concentric experiences and that we should harness and honor every scale of design, from our sensory encounters with color and texture to the overall organization of spaces and programs.

Hayden graduated cum laude from Yale University with a BA in East Asian Studies and received his MArch degree from Harvard Graduate School of Design. He has worked at numerous global architecture firms including Bjarke Ingels Group, Serie Architects and SHoP. He was most recently a designer at Studio Gang where he worked on the expansion to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Prior to joining RISD, he taught at UCLA.
