Tom Doran teaches courses on comics art, natural history, poetics, transnational and multiethnic American Studies, the history of science and ecology and various forms of writing. His courses often incorporate hands-on projects that encourage students to expand the conceptual, material and methodological scope of literary inquiry. In addition to his fiction and poetry writing, Doran is currently working on research in two areas of comics studies: representations of animal minds and queer approaches to the environment. He has also published several articles on animal protectionist rhetoric in the indigenous and Euro-colonial natural histories of the early Americas. His writing has appeared in Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and the Environment, Humanimalia, the Journal of Florida Studies, the Journal of Ecocriticism, Fence and Volt.
