Betsy Lewis

Betsy Lewis investigates acts of offering by accumulating signifiers that allude to grief and hope, working to realize a new form of truth-telling through the body. She uses traditional silversmith techniques such as hollow forming, forging and fabrication to make objects whose meaning is derived from the weight of memories and the methods we use to instill them with meaning and creates historical tension by asserting the value of these methods in a contemporary studio context. Lewis has held assistantships and teaching positions at Maine College of Art, Brooklyn Metalworks and SUNY New Paltz, where she earned her MFA. She currently lives in New York City.
