Bridget Parris

Bridget Parris demonstrates a breadth of interdisciplinary knowledge and expertise that crosses couture, product design, architecture and fine arts. Her industry experience focuses on authentic, small-scale production, and she has worked in collaboration with makers in NYC and around the globe. Her bespoke commissions exhibit an exquisite level of proficiency, and her appreciation of fabric, form and technique augment the Apparel Design department’s belief in the importance of craft and the skillful fashioning of clothing.

Parris previously headed up the atelier for Marchesa, producing couture collections for seasons spring/summer 2017 through bridal 2018. In that role she acted as liaison between the designers and the atelier, materializing their vision from concept to exquisitely constructed garment. She is well-versed in partnering with stylists, managing backstage dressers and handling the other many details leading up to a runway show.

In the spring/summer 2019 season, Parris launched Bridget Parris Couturier, her own collection of couture eveningwear. As designer, head creative patternmaker and draper, she creates limited-edition and one-of-a-kind couture garments for custom clients and boutiques. Her gowns have been requested by stylists for presenters at the Oscar Awards and worn by various celebrities and dancers. She recently collaborated with Martha Graham dancer Charlotte Landreau on costume designs, which are featured on marthagraham.org.

Parris has extensive teaching experience across ages. She has taught design courses at Parsons The New School for Design, The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and The Guggenheim Museum. She has the added ability to meaningfully engage in RISD’s Social Equity and Inclusion mission, having been involved in a variety of teaching programs for diverse communities and having designed curriculum for students from underrepresented populations in NYC.

Her work has been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times, Casa Grazia Italia, House Beautiful Magazine, Domino Magazine, Real Simple Magazine, Oprah’s O Home Magazine, Veranda Magazine, The Washington Post and The Washington Times.
