Dong Zhang has 25 years of professional experience in landscape architecture. He co-founded Z+T Studio with Ziying Tang in 2009 in Shanghai, China. Situated at the crossroads of landscape architecture and an increasingly urbanized environment, Zhang understands that the profession has evolved beyond the traditional focus on aesthetics and gardens to encompass more abstract ideas such as diversity, self-esteem and identity. Z+T has identified the core of the work as making connections between nature and community well-being, landscape resilience and ecological sustainability.
Prior to founding Z+T, Zhang accrued extensive academic and practical experience in both the US and China, collaborating with Martha Schwartz Partners and Stephen Stimson Associates in the US and with Turenscape in China. This experience laid the foundation for his ability to embrace the perspectives and sensitivities of West and East. His portfolio includes master planning, research centers and public parks and has garnered such national and international recognition as the ASLA Honor Awards in 2014 and 2017. He is currently a visiting scholar at RISD.
