James T. McGill
As Interim CFO, James T. (Jim) McGill brings decades of experience in higher education finance and administration to RISD. He was the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration at Johns Hopkins University for over 12 years, serving as the principal adviser to the president on non-academic matters and providing leadership in the areas of administration, business, facilities, finance and human resources. Since retiring from that role in 2010, he has consulted with more than a dozen higher education institutions—and served as interim CFO at two of them besides RISD—to recruit financial talent and support financial and strategic planning.
Prior to Johns Hopkins, McGill was the chief financial and administrative officer for the University of Missouri system and at the Oregon Health Sciences University, following additional service at the University of Illinois Medical Center, the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Institute for Defense Analyses. He earned BA and BS degrees (with honors) in mathematics from Oregon State University and a PhD in operations research from Stanford University in 1969.
McGill lives in Baltimore, MD, where he has been deeply involved in community projects and has served on several nonprofit boards.
