Mary Jones is a painter living and working in NYC. Her work investigates the intersections of abstraction and figuration, layering passages of improvisation and gesture with digital printing, collage, X-rays, and spray paint. There are suggestions of the human form at the edge of recognition, combining construction and destruction, presence and absence.

As a teacher, Jones focuses on process as a generative approach, an embodied way to discover and broaden content through material and conceptual experimentation. Painting is contextualized as a historic and culturally evolving language, open to individual interpretation and identity.

Jones is represented by High Noon Gallery in NYC, where she has had four one-person shows. She has also recently had one-person shows at as-is.la and Steffany Martz Gallery. Her work is included in The Broad Art Collection in LA, among many others. Her work has been written about in numerous publications including The Brooklyn Rail, Two Coats of Paint, White Hot Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Art in America, and ARTnews. Her writing about art includes numerous reviews and interviews with artists and has been published in Two Coats of Paint, The Brooklyn Rail, Bomb Magazine and Art Critical.
