The Environmental Health and Safety office (EHS) develops and implements programs to ensure RISD’s compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations, and to meet our goal to be a world-class leader on environmental health and safety issues in the arts. To achieve this goal, RISD programs and facilities must be models for environmental stewardship.
RISD administration supports, and all at RISD should embrace, the concept of protecting our environment and ensuring safe working conditions.

Fire/Life Safety
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), working in conjunction with Public Safety (DPS) and Facilities, is responsible for RISD’s Fire/Life Safety program.
EHS ensures that fire drills are conducted in dormitories at least once per semester and provides training in fire and life safety issues.
The Fire and Life Safety committee meets on a monthly basis. We encourage you to contact us with your comments or suggestions at 401-454-6485. If you would like to report any issues via email you may do so at workorders.risd.edu.
Indoor air quality
RISD is committed to the health and safety of all members of our college community and maintaining a healthy indoor environment in our buildings.
The EPA defines indoor air quality (IAQ) as the air quality within and around buildings and structures, especially as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants. There are multiple factors that contribute to indoor air quality such as ventilation, temperature and humidity levels, building materials, outdoor air quality, cleaning products, and other chemicals used in the building. Personal choices such as the wearing of fragrances, growing of house plants, and storage of food can also impact IAQ.
