Furniture Design Department

The Furniture Design department was established in 1995 to elevate practice and scholarship and to promote research in the field. With an innovative curriculum and extensive studio facilities, students create work in a dynamic environment supportive of experimentation and personal growth.

Our department is committed to redefining the discipline of furniture making through an identity that is broad-based and incorporates the most relevant aspects of art, design and craft. The curriculum promotes critical thinking and critical making, as well as explorations of contextual issues, investigations into new challenges of human interface in contemporary environments, the integration of new technologies and the complexities of our times.

Via a range of materials, contexts and approaches, students in Furniture Design create quality objects that enhance the experiences of people who use them, while simultaneously expressing their highly individual perspectives.
