Health Education and Promotion (HEP) provides health and wellness education across campus and leads initiatives that encourage, support and foster wellbeing. Through events, workshops and peer education, we help students access the sustainable tools, skills, and knowledge they need to create a personal state of wellness, otherwise known as homeostasis.
Our vision is of a RISD community where the cultivation of well-being practices is viewed as a keystone to students’ artistic aspirations and success.
HEP offers education, workshops, events and support across the following topics and more:
- 10 Dimensions of Wellness (creative, cultural, emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual)
- consent and healthy relationships
- alcohol and other drugs education
- sexual education
- LGBTQIA+ education and support
- nutrition and intuitive eating
- body positivity and body neutrality
- stress and stress relief
Students can access one-on-one support through our open office hours or by appointment. You can also make requests for programmatic collaboration via email.

Health and Wellness Ambassadors
One of the core elements of HEP is the Health and Wellness Ambassadors (HAWA) program. The ambassadors are student health educators who work with the HEP coordinator to provide peer-to-peer education on a variety of health-related topics.
Together the HAWAs lead campus events and workshops to share skills and promote practices that increase students’ wellbeing.
