Critic

MiHyun Kim is an interdisciplinary designer, researcher, and educator whose work explores how design can make complex and often invisible issues visible through emerging technologies, storytelling, and data visualization. Her practice creates systems that connect data, narratives, and lived experiences across social, cultural, and technological contexts. She is particularly interested in how emerging technologies—including AI, immersive media, and computational design—are reshaping both design practice and design education.

She has taught Interaction Design, Data and Information Design, and Generative Design across undergraduate and graduate programs, emphasizing experimentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and critical engagement with technology. She has led collaborative research and creative projects supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and other cultural organizations. Her work has been recognized by international and national organizations, including the Information is Beautiful Awards, AIGA Design Educators Community, College Art Association (CAA), Interaction Design Association (IxDA), International Council of Design (ico-D), and Ars Electronica.
